Tuition Fees at Adamson University

May 10, 2010 · Filed Under schools, universities

Last school year, Adamson University didn’t increase its tuition fees.  For this school year 2010-2011, the university has decided to increase its tuition fees by 9 percent.

Nevertheless, Adamson officials insist the rate of increase was among the lowest compared to increases in other universities and that the new tuition fee levels are among the lowest in Metro Manila.

Indeed, Adamson has among the lowest tuition fees in Metro Manila, one of the factors we considered in choosing the school for my daughter.  It was also very near the house of my sister-in-law.

I would have liked my daughter to continue studying at nearby TUP for economic reasons, but sadly, TUP does not approve course shifting, which my daughter had to do because of health reasons.

The tuition fee for the first semester of  BS in Accounting  (29 units) at Adamson is almost 33,000  pesos.  If paid in cash, the discount is 5 percent.  For installment payments, the initial payment is 5,000 pesos.  The rest — three payments of  9,200 plus — are paid before the prelims, midterm and finals.

Included in this nearly 33,000-peso payment are one set of school uniform and one set of PE uniform.

Hello There, I’m leaving this comment as Adamson graduate and to help you choose the best education for your daughter.

In my opinion, I highly suggest that you enroll your daughter to either one of the (top) 4 Universities in the Philippines. Namely: UP, La Salle, Ateneo, and UST. While I strongly believe that the future of your daughter depends largely on herself, her chances to get better education depends on which institution you will enroll her. Am not saying Adamson doesn’t fair with these Universities however comparison between facilities, faculties, environment and reputation of schools Adamson is on the lower quartile of the selection. E.g. not sure if Adamson has expanded their campus but back then they only have one campus (manila), and the classrooms are not conducive for learning. We’re talking of poorly ventilated classrooms, I even experienced (for years, not days or weeks…years!) wherein I’m sitting outside the door because the classroom is so crowded. In addition, their chem lab is superb 3 to 4 years ago, but with other department it falls below expectations. The slow improvements in facilities impacts the chance of the students to be at par with others. Years after I left, La Salle upgraded their chem lab facilities at par with the rest of the world, while Adamson got stucked in a time capsule. Same is true with UP, Ateneo, and UST.

Don’t get me wrong though, Adamson at some point have advantages. (1) low tuition fees compared to the 4 universities (2) most of the faculty are the best of breed, we’re talking about PhDs here (not sure if most of them are still there or they moved on to other universities) (3) easy access when commuting, one of easiest to reach via BUS, LRT, or jeepney.

Lastly, think about your daughter’s future. Me, i don’t mind spending a fortune for my daughters education. I don’t know if she fairs or succeeds compared to others but at least I knew that I putting her future in the right hands for the right price. At least she’ll get the best education at par with the rest of world.

  2. Nors on May 26th, 2010 9:00 pm

Wow, thanks, Anonymous, for your comments. Really appreciate it. Yes, I agree with you that the 4 universities you mentioned are among the best in the country. Also agree that my daughter’s future would largely depend on her decisions. And all the other insights you explained — I agree. The thing is we missed the UST and UP application periods, intentionally in part, as during those times we were at a point when TUP was the only school we could afford. Early this year, we were able to sell something, so we were able to transfer her to AdU. LaSalle and Ateneo are schools we can never afford with our current finances. Yes, UP or UST would have been great… or Pamantasan ng Mla.
Anyway, I hope my daughter would have a better financial future — much better than what I’m currently having.
Thanks a lot for your comments, really grateful for your effort. By the way, AdU has already improved its facilities. The rooms are already air-conditioned. They’re even treating the creek that passes through the campus.

  5. Nors on June 27th, 2010 7:10 pm

Hi, John, thanks a lot for your info. More power to your studies, John.

Actually, Adamson University is now implementing a New Grading System (NGS) which is a Zero-based and 70% passing.

    Soar High Falcons!

  7. Nors on September 6th, 2010 9:37 pm

Thanks, Adrianne, for commenting. Hopefully, the NGS encourages students to study harder.

  8. Adrianne Manniego on October 14th, 2010 6:51 pm

    you’re welcome!

I’m hoping that I won’t fail any of my subjects either if it’s a major or a minor within the first semester.

The said NGS is encouraging for us to go further than to what we always believe in.

TRUE ADAMSONIANS ARE NOT AFRAID OF FACING NEW CHALLENGES.

HEART ON YOUR SLEEVES! CHEER FOR ADAMSON!

    SOAR HIGH FALCONS!

  11. Nors on November 30th, 2010 10:02 am

Hi, John, Adrianne here is saying something. You’re proud of your school, now make UST proud of you. Be a responsible UST student, and explain why you say Adamson is bulok. You don’t just say something, especially if it hurts, but you’re not able to defend it.

  13. Nors on December 6th, 2010 6:02 pm

Hi, marabi, I like it when you said that Adamson has projects for the poor. And yes, Adamson is doing its best in pushing for academic excellence, such as the zero-based system.

  14. Adrianne Manniego on December 12th, 2010 11:47 am

yesterday, we made a successful Christmas party for the children in Cabuyao, Laguna with the lead of NSTP department. It’s been years now that the Adamson community shares small things which in a way made them smile. Unluckily, some of them are eager to learn but can’t afford of going to school as I read their christmas card during the activity.

I felt helpless. I can’t even lend a hand but all I can do that time was to make funny jokes and tell them to study hard (even some doesn’t go to school). But I know that someday, I could also help those kids who are unfortunate.

  15. Nors on December 12th, 2010 1:59 pm

Hi, Adrianne, I’m so touched that you felt real concern for the kids, and you have the desire to help them. Just having that desire in you to give and to share is already great. I see that you can write well. Do you have a blog? If not yet, and if you have time, you can explore the free blogger.com and make your own blog. You can also take a look at hubpages. As you go along, you can discover ways to make some earnings… But you’ve got to learn a lot of things first, but you can start… slowly as you focus on your studies first. Take care…

  16. Adrianne Manniego on December 23rd, 2010 12:39 am

I feel so flattered to your compliment. hehehe :) . I have no blogs yet but I have plans too. I guess that’s a great idea but I focus more now on my study.

I think I should take creative and technical writing classes first before making such blogs (in order for me to express myself well).

I also have a plan to be a literary writer/editor in the Information Technology and Management’s newspaper in the school.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It gives me a passion of moving towards into it.

I guess writing will be fun!

Hi, Adrianne, well, I was once young also, and back then, there was no Internet and there was no one encouraging me. It makes me feel good if I can encourage some young people like you, who has a generous heart particularly with children, and who show talent. You can actually start blogging while learning. Anyway Google’s Blogger is free. But of course focus on your studies if that’s what you desire right now. Yes, being part of your school’s paper is a good training ground. Being good both in science (IT) and creative arts is a gift, keep developing it. Take care and enjoy studying. Just give me a note when you finally want to start your blog, and maybe I can suggest something.

  20. Adrianne Manniego on December 23rd, 2010 6:11 pm

sorry my posts were too many. It didn’t appear when I first submitted the response to your blog. Anyways, I am lucky of knowing you here in the net. It feels good when you’re being encouraged to do something good.

I guess, I wanna start now since I am always online and besides, writing is also my passion. Could you tell me the procedures on how to start making a blog?

Thanks for your help ate Nors.
    God Bless!

  21. Nors on December 24th, 2010 11:39 am

Hi, Adrienne, I think your posts are not appearing immediately because you’re writing “yahoo!” on the website. It’s triggering the spam filter on my site.
First, think of the topics you want to focus on. You can of course write on many topics, but it’s better if you focus on a certain subject (You’ll know why later on). But it’s also because you need to create the name of your blog. Will it be better to name your blog Adrienne? or adamsonstudents? or ITstudies? helpchildren?
Anyway, I think now that it’s better for you to discover things as you go. I’ll recommend Blogger because it’s free and it’s owned by Google so it’s more stable than the other free blogging systems. Do you have a GMail account? If not, create first. Go to https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?service=mail&continue=http://mail.google.com/mail/e-11-121614e398e2bb5259e5466f0f3171-acc4a5dc80ff7e280a32b2a8ccaf682d2ee1f525&type=2. After having a Gmail account, go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=blogger&continue=https://www.blogger.com/loginz%3Fd%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.blogger.com%252Fposts.g%26a%3DADD_SERVICE_FLAG&passive=true&alinsu=0&aplinsu=0&alwf=true&hl=en&ltmpl=start&skipvpage=true&rm=false&showra=1&fpui=2&naui=8#s01 Click GET STARTED. Just follow the instructions. Don’t worry about clicking the wrong thing. You can always go back. Explore. Then send me later your blog domain name — which would be like this adrienne.blogspot.com or adamsonITgirl.blogspot.com — so I can comment. Just email your questions. Merry Christmas Adrienne, happy blogging…

  22. Adrianne Manniego on December 24th, 2010 1:59 pm

thanks ate Nors! and Merry Christmas too. I made my account last night on Hubpages.com which you reccommended me to look at. Is it real that you can earn money through blogging? If it is, then I would really go into blogging. I also want to lighten the load of my parents on the payment of my tuition fees. I guess it would gonna be a big help for me if I earn money and enjoy blogging at the same time.

If you want to look on my account, here it is: 7teen_dreams on hubpages.com
I’m starting to create my account on google too.

Hello there! Adamson is not just a good university but it’s a catholic university run by Greeks when it started in 1932 for those who don’t know. Now it is managed by Vincetian priest.
Yeah UST is UST and UP is UP no doubt about it, they are good schools but soaring tuition fee rates but Adamson is comparable too. Good school with middle priced tuition fees. Adu has good and fluent instructors & professors with moral values. Not to mention the university the good facilities that they provide.
I graduated from Adu College of L.A. last 1994, landed a good job after a month, got promoted after a year and went abroad after 3 years. These helped improved my families life.
Top corporations in the Philippines really look at the name of school where you came once you enter their recruitment department. It’s big deal to them in our country.
Would you believe, when they see it’s Adamson, smile because you’re in too. In abroad, they don’t care much where you graduated as long as you have the experienced and the skills for the job that you are applying for.
My batch mates who graduated last 1994 just to make an example are successful, most of them. They are in US, NZ, AU ,the Middle East and other parts of the world holding good positions.
Some are still in the Philippines holding top positions too in the corporate field; HR manager, Operations manager, Accounting manager etc.
I’m thankful that my elder brother enrolled me at AdU that time other than any univeristy because Adu not only prepared me for a good battlefield in career world, shaped me into a patriotic & good law abiding citizen with values and polished me into an individual that I am now.
Pharmacy and Engineering are the two fortes of Adamson.
Good luck school searcher! Still the decision is yours to take.

  24. Nors on March 6th, 2011 6:25 am

Hi Alex, thanks a lot for sharing your insights and experiences about Adamson here. Congrats for your success in your career. Adamson and your parents must be very proud of you. Yes, one of the factors going for AdU is its tuition fee level — not so costly, compared to that of LaSalle, San Beda and the others. Its location is also a good factor. Thanks also for pointing out that pharmacy and engineering are among AdU’s leading courses. Thanks again and wish you more blessings, Alex.

But sad to say my fellowmen, Adamson U is now to increase its tuition fee by 10%. I’ll be transferring next semester. My family couldn’t afford the load of my payments anymore. T.T

  31. Nors on March 27th, 2011 1:15 pm

Hi Adrianne! Glad you visited again. Ang laki naman ng increase. Mabigat talagang buhatin ang tuition fees ngayon. May comments din about Adamson and other schools dito – http://www.workingpinoy.com/2010/11/tuition-fees-at-feu-and-some-other-universities-in-manila-philippines/

Hope you can comment about your new school soon.

im planning to transfer this coming school year. and i’m looking for a school that has low tuition fee but good in psychology course.. i hope somebody here would help me.. thanks an advance

  33. Nors on March 30th, 2011 5:57 pm

Hi Barney, yon nga ang problem ng marami, where the low tuition fees are. Try PCU or Trinity University of Asia — I think their fees are lower than other schools. Yong university ng city mo, try mo rin. http://www.workingpinoy.com/2011/01/state-universities-state-colleges-metro-manila-philippines/

  34. Adrianne Manniego on April 1st, 2011 2:49 pm

Barney, I would suggest RTU (Rizal Technological University) in Mandaluyong City. Since it is good school for psychology and the fact that they don’t sell diploma (as in diploma mill). PUP is also advisable too. The both school I’ve mentioned are also affordable.

Ate Nors, sana nga maging masaya ako. wala silang ino-offer na IT kaya mapipilitan akong mag-CS.After a year or two, if IT is not really my field of expertise, I will shift into AB english somewhere in QC.

  35. Nors on April 2nd, 2011 9:09 am

Hi Adrianne, thanks for the RTU tip. I was working there in Mandaluyong years ago when RTU started as RTI. It has improved by leaps and bounds.

Ganon naman, Adrianne. There are many of us, kasama na ako ron, who can’t really pinpoint where we excell while we’re young. Ako, I got the wrong college degree. I should have shifted before I graduated.
Oks lang na you take time finding the right course for you while you’re young — so that by the time you have a family of your own, definite ka na sa road na tinahak mo. Best regards, Adrianne

  37. Nors on April 20th, 2011 12:04 pm

Hi Christine, the uniform consists of blue ladies pants and white blouse with silk-like scarf. Accountancy din dati yong anak ko sa Adamson, pero she found out acctg is not her forte. Merong zero-based grading system ang Adamson (di ko pa na-research kung ano yon – but it was launched to push up standards, so acctg must be ok there. Siguro research on that — zero-based — and if u have time, kindly share it here.

  38. Anonymous on October 11th, 2011 9:03 am

First of all, I’m an Adamson graduate. So what I am about say is *not* in any way underestimating the schools ability to produce excellent graduates. After all, success of a person is NEVER measured by the schools or institutions they came from.

However, I have never felt so deprived when I was in Adamson. I don’t know if it was just my time and improvements were in place to address the current needs of the students, but back in my time the facilities sucks big time! All other universities at the time (2000 – 2006) have expanded, improved their facility, more conducive classrooms, etc.. but back in my time we are sitting in a dusty, humid, and extremely hot classrooms. To make matters worst, during laboratories, all 30 students shares 1 lab equipment, or sometimes none at all.

I guess what I’m saying is, sayang yung binayad ng parents ko. For what it is worth, I’m better off stretching our budget and spend it somewhere better…say Mapua?…alam mo yun.

  39. RV on October 11th, 2011 6:38 pm

Beforehand,I’d liked to say thanks for the reply nd for the info as well. Had short question po how much po kya average tuition fee rate s PNU, specially BSE major in English and credited dn po kya ito sa transferee? thank you again, have a nice day..Godspeed..

  40. Anonymous on October 12th, 2011 11:46 pm

    Hi Nors,

Accd to what I’ve heard, zero-based system is a grading system that few schools here in the Ph is already doing, or is planning to do, because of its benefits to students

I can’t explain it clearly so I’ll give out example. For instance, you missed a long quiz in a subject you’re taking because of absence. If your reason is not good enough or is not acceptable, professor normally will not give you a special quiz and write 70 in your grade sheet, right?
But in zero-based system, it will be zero. Same goes to projects, examinations, labs, etc.

It will surely motivate the students to strive harder, though many will be shocked to this newly proposed system.

  41. Nors on October 13th, 2011 7:52 am

Hi Anonymous, thanks for sharing. Adamson officials must have reasons why they launched this zero-based grading system. Kasi puede namang i-enhance ang quality ng education even with the same grading system, pero gusto siguro nilang merong impact yong change — parang merong bagong program or merong innovation, para the students take notice. Best regards.

  42. Nors on October 13th, 2011 8:07 am

Hi Anonymous (Adamson graduate), Adamson must have done something good because you turned out well — you can express yourself well. It’s true what you said about success not solely dependent on the school. Si Steve Jobs nga, 1st sem lang pala siya sa college, at hindi nga Ivy school yong pinuntahan niya. Nasa tao rin at sa opportunities. I graduated from Mapua, so I’m a little bit delighted you recommended Mapua. Kaya lang parang ang expensive ng Mapua ngayon tapos tri-sem pa. Mas mabilis konti magtapos pero mabilis din ang out ng pera. Best regards.

  45. Nors on January 12th, 2012 5:19 am

Hi Karina, usually BS or Bachelor course ang accounting, so 4 or 5 years siya. Sa Adamson, merong Two-Year Computer Secretarial Course. May 3-year Diploma in Office Management Technology sa PUP. Merong short-term Basic Accounting sa EARIST. Merong Associate in Office Management sa PCU. Search mo lang mga websites ng schools, and check Academics, Academic Programs or Programs sa tabs nila.

  47. Nors on January 25th, 2012 5:28 pm

Hi Jiorjet, merong mga scholarships, pero usually available sila for certain groups, such as OFW children, or Manila residents, or valedictorians, etc. Baka merong kang course na gusto sa RTU, a state university. RTU is growing to be a popular and quality school. Among the top performers na siya in board exams. If you’re not a Makati resident but your high school average grade is 88% or above, UMAK is also an option. PUP pa pala, look at courses offered there. Sorry lang at walang pharmacy in these schools, pero baka meron kang other desired course.
