  9. St. Peter Life Plan, lnc. — life plans
  10. Sunlife Financial Plans, lnc. — educational, pension plans
  11. Trusteeship Plans, lnc. — educational, life, pension plans

Note: First Union Plans Inc. and Mercantile Care Plans Inc. are licensed only to service their existing clients. No longer allowed to sell plans to new clients.

From nearly 100 pre-need companies in the late 1980s to 51 firms whose supervision was transferred from the SEC to the Insurance Commission in 2010, then later to 16 firms in 2015, the 11 firms listed above are the only ones surviving.

2015 update:

There are 16 licensed pre-need firms as of 2015. From the 2009 list, these 3 below are no longer in the 2015 list:

  1. First Country Plans
  2. Danvil Plans (formerly Berkley International Plans)
  3. Grayline Plans

March 2012 update:

There are 20 licensed pre-need firms as of March 2012. First Country Plans is no longer in the list. It was in the September 2011 list.

September 2011 update:

There are 21 pre-need firms licensed to operate.

February 25, 2011 update:

APEC is authorized to sell only life plans, not pension and educational plans as its educational portfolio is still under a rehabilitation plan. APEC though is servicing its pension and fixed-value educational plans.
For those wondering about Danvil Plans, I don’t know if it’s among the 4 with still pending license applications. If the report is true that its portfolio was acquired by Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Company (PPLIC or Prudentialife), then it makes sense that it’s no longer in the list.

It was PPLIC which processed my benefit claim last October 2010. And it’s still processing Danvil Plans claims, from my latest update. PPLIC is an insurance firm — it’s in the list of 30 firms with renewed licenses for the year 2011. It’s also among those with highest premium profits.

Jan 2011 update:

The pre-need firms missing in the January 2011 list which were in the SEC list as of December 2009 were:

  • Abundance Providers and Entrepreneurs Corporation (APEC) (formerly Pacific Plans)
  • Cocoplans
  • Danvil Plans (formerly Berkley International Plans)
  • First Country Plans
  • Grayline Plans
