Yes, you can use your BDO Kabayan ATM Debit Card with a MasterCard or Visa logo to withdraw money from ATMs outside the Philippines.
Your BDO Kabayan ATM Debit Card can be used to withdraw money abroad as long as:
- it has a Mastercard or Visa logo
- it is active
(you have successfully changed your PIN at a BDO ATM in the Philippines) - it has sufficient balance.
- you are withdrawing from an ATM that has a Mastercard/Maestro/Cirrus or Visa/Visa Plus logo.
You can also use it to buy goods at Mastercard/Visa-linked stores abroad.
See fees for withdrawal and purchase transactions below.
New Update!
If you own a BDO Kabayan ATM debit card, know that your ATM card should be replaced with a new EMV ATM debit card. It has an EMV chip.
Invalid na ang BDO ATM cards na walang EMV chip. For Kabayan cards, valid pa, pero up to March 31, 2018 na lang.
EMV stands for Europay Mastercard Visa. It has chip technology that can reduce skimming and other fraudulent attacks.
The new EMV ATM cards are free. For replacements due to loss, damage or change of brand (from Visa to Mastercard or vice versa), the card replacement fee is 150 pesos.
If you are currently in the Philippines, visit any branch with your BDO ATM card and valid IDs and request for your EMV ATM card. For generic cards (no name on the card), you can get it immediately. For personalized cards (your name on the card), you request and return to get your new card after 3 days, if in Metro Manila, and after 7 days, if in the provinces.
If you are abroad, you can ask your authorized representative to get your ATM card in your behalf. Here are BDO’s instructions on how you can authorize your representative to get your EMV BDO ATM card.
For owners of other BDO ATM debit cards (non-Kabayan and non-payroll):
If you have not claimed your new EMV ATM debit cards, know that ATMs will no longer honor non-EMV BDO ATM cards starting February 1, 2018. BDO said announcements were made about this new EMV card since 2016.
You need to claim your new EMV ATM cards to be able to withdraw from ATMs. Claim at your branch of account. Bring your valid IDs. After receiving your new ATM card, change your PIN at a BDO ATM.
Where to withdraw money or inquire abroad:
For cards with the MasterCard logo, withdraw at the ATM of any bank with the Cirrus Maestro/PLUS logos.
For VISA cards, withdraw at ATMs with the VISA/VISA Plus logos.
Cards without a Mastercard or Visa logo:
If your ATM card does not have a MasterCard or Visa logo, you cannot withdraw from ATMs abroad.
When you claim your new BDO ATM debit card with EMV chip, it will already be with a Mastercard logo. If you prefer Visa, you can have it changed for a fee of 150 pesos and processing will take 3 to 7 days.
These are the transaction fees for ATM withdrawals abroad:
- Balance Inquiry – US$ 1.00
- Withdrawal – US$ 3.50
- For unsuccessful ATM transactions such as wrong PIN, insufficient funds, exceeds limit, etc., you will be charged US$ 1.00.
For purchases at stores abroad:
There’s a foreign exchange conversion fee — Assessment fee of 1% plus service fee of 1% of the converted amount. Conversion rate will be based on the prevailing foreign exchange rate of BDO at the time of transaction.
For your financial needs abroad, do not rely solely on your BDO ATM debit cards while abroad. Your cards, the ATMs and bank connections might not work all the time.
